The surname Illarr was first found in settlements along the Iller River, from whose name the surname is derived. The first known bearer of the name was Hainr uf der Ilre, who was a citizen of Kempten in 1333. The young Illarr family played a major role in the early history of the region, and contributed greatly to the development of medieval Bavarian society.
