William Hatt in Brounhill, 1633, and Alexander Hatt, a trade burgess in Aberdeen in 1670, is perhaps Alexander Hatt, maltman there in 1697. Alexander Hatt was a fanner at Haughton of Bieldside, Banchory-Devenick, 1846. Harrison says from a trade name. Perhaps Hatmalin is an error of transcription. compare Hatmaker." 1
