Early Origins of the Freid family

The surname Freid was first found in Baden, where the name was anciently associated with the tribal conflicts of the area. Frauendorf is a municipality in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, in southern Brandenburg, Germany. And in the Bavarian region of Upper Franconia, Frauendorf is a borough of Bad Staffelstein that dates back to 1070.

The ruins of Frauenstein Castle, dating back to 1272, are located on the crest of the Eastern Ore Mountains near the town of Frauenstein in Saxony.
