Foxworth History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

Early Origins of the Foxworth family

The surname Foxworth was first found in Cambridgeshire at Folksworth, a small village and parish, in the union of Peterborough, hundred of Norman-Cross. Traditionally part of Huntingdonshire, the village has remained small over the centuries but dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was listed as Folchesworde. [1] Literally, the place name means "enclosure of a man called Folc," from the Old English personal name + "worth." [2] St Helen's Church on Morborne Road was first built in 1150 AD and was later restored in 1850.

Foxworth migration to the United States

In an attempt to escape the chaos experienced in England, many English families boarded overcrowded and diseased ships sailing for the shores of North America and other British colonies. Those families hardy enough, and lucky enough, to make the passage intact were rewarded with land and a social environment less prone to religious and political persecution. Many of these families became important contributors to the young colonies in which they settled. Early immigration and passenger lists have documented some of the first Foxworths to arrive on North American shores:
