The surname Foxworth was first found in Cambridgeshire at Folksworth, a small village and parish, in the union of Peterborough, hundred of Norman-Cross. Traditionally part of Huntingdonshire, the village has remained small over the centuries but dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086 where it was listed as Folchesworde. [1] Literally, the place name means "enclosure of a man called Folc," from the Old English personal name + "worth." [2] St Helen's Church on Morborne Road was first built in 1150 AD and was later restored in 1850.

Foxworth has been spelled many different ways, including Before English spelling became standardized over the last few hundred years, spelling variations in names were a common occurrence. As the English language changed in the Middle Ages, absorbing pieces of Latin and French, as well as other languages, the spelling of people's names also changed considerably, even over a single lifetime.
