The name Davitch was brought to England in the great wave of migration following the Norman Conquest of 1066. It comes from the first name David, which means "beloved." The name David was quite popular as an honor to the biblical king of that name. Its popularity increased in Britain firstly by virtue of its being the name of the patron saint of Wales.
