Early Notables of the Cerveny family

was sixteenth century writer and historian Francisco Cervantes de Salazar, who taught at universities both in Spain and in Mexico. Of course the best known family member was Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616), illustrious author of "Don Quijote de la Mancha", Spain's most famous novel. Born in Alcalá de Henares, near Madrid, he was the son of Rodrigo de Cervantes and Leonor de Cortinas, both of noble lineage. He fought for Spain at the great naval battle of Lepanto in 1571, during which he was wounded in the left arm...
