The Latin phrase,
Magni rotuli scaccarii normanniae sub regibus Angliae, directly translates to, G
reat Rolls of the Board of Normandy and the Kings of England. These rolls are records of audits that were completed by sheriffs at the command of the former kings of
England and dukes of
Normandy, as well as other financial records that were kept by the Treasury.
The rolls were kept from the 12th century until 1833 and they were published in two volumes in 1841 and 1844 by the English antiquarian, Thomas Stapleton (1805-1849).
