Some called them, less romantically, the "coffin ships." Among the early settlers bearing the Baddebay surname who came to North America were: John Badeby who arrived in Virginia in 1623; Audre Batbie, aged 11, who arrived at Ellis Island from Pans, France, in 1907; Jean Batbie, aged 27, who arrived at Ellis Island from Pau, France, in 1916.
