The surname Anzani was first found in Milan (Italian: Milano, Milanese: Milan), the second-most populous city in Italy and the capital of Lombardy. The two palaces in the Piazza del Duomo, Palazzo Reale and the palace of the archbishops are notable. The city is rich in art, museums, galleries and sights. Castello Sforzesco stands in the Parco. While the name Anzani hailed from Milan, many moved to Naples.
A member of the Anziani di Pontremoli family held the position of mayor and was accordingly registered with the nobility by decree of 18 July 1785. Niccolo and Guiseppe di Matteo the other Anziani family of Pontremoli descending from Angelo di Bernardino, ascribed to the Florentine nobility in 1773, and to that of Pontremoli in 1780.
