Early Origins of the Slyfield family

The surname Slyfield was first found in Sussex at Horsham where they were Lords of the manor of Slyfield. In ancient times, both "Sly" and "sleigh" were synonymous, and the family of Sly did not come in with William the Conqueror. Shakespeare in the "Taming of the Shrew" asserts that "the Slys are no rogues" but were skilful men cunning of hand.
