Conjecturally, the surname is descended from the tenant of lands in that shire Siward Mocesun, a Norman noble who was recorded in the Domesday Book census of 1086. 3 He was from Calvados in Normandy. Siuuard Mocesun (perhaps a descendant) was recorded as holding lands there in an early rolls (1087-1098.)
