Early Origins of the Cisna family

The surname Cisna was first found in Murano, an island in the Venetian lagoon. The cathedral, S Maria e Donato is a fine basilica of the 9th century. There are beautiful mosaics within the cathedral. In the 12th century the doge Vital Micheli II incorporated the island into Venice. It was a favorite resort of Venetian nobility. In those ancient times only persons of rank, the podesta, clergy, city officials, army officers, artists, landowners were entered into the records. To be recorded at this time, at the beginning of recorded history, was of itself a great distinction and indicative of noble ancestry.
