Early Origins of the Vignron family


The surname Vignron was first found in Belgium, where the name became noted for its many branches in the region, each house acquiring a status and influence which was envied by the princes of the region. The name was first recorded in Namur, a province in Belgium. The old citadel was the castle of the ancient counts of Namur. The districts include Namur, Dinant, and Philippeville. In their later history the surname became a power unto themselves and were elevated to the ranks of nobility as they grew into a most influential family.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Rene Vigneron, who came to Canada in 1647; Michel Vignon, who came to Montreal in 1650; Adam Vigne, who arrived in Virginia in 1714; Jeanne Vigneron, who settled in Louisiana sometime between 1717 and 1721.
