The Norman Conquest of England in 1066 brought much change, including many immigrants with new names. Among these were the ancestors of the Terbet family, whose name comes from the ancient Norman given name Terbert. They were descended from the Baron Richard, brother of Sir Robert Fitzhenry, founder of Burscough Priory.
