Sootheyck Early Origins

The surname Sootheyck was first found in Kirkcudbrightshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Chille Chuithbheirt), part of the present day Council Area of Dumfries and Galloway, former county in Southwestern Scotland, where they held a family seat from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. Gilbert Southwick was son of Gospatrick, son of Orm, Earl of Northumberland. The parish of Southwick in Durham is of particular interest to the family. "The estate was once the property of a family named Suthwyk, and afterwards formed part of the possessions of the Hedworths."
