Robertome History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms



The name Robertome was first used by the ancient Strathclyde-Briton people of the Scottish/English Borderlands. The first Robertome family lived in Lanarkshire.

Early Origins of the Robertome family


The surname Robertome was first found in Lanarkshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Lannraig) a former county in the central Strathclyde region of Scotland, now divided into the Council Areas of North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, and the City of Glasgow, where they held a family seat in Roberton from very ancient times. The name was given by Robert, brother of Lambin, about the year 1220, often confused with Robertson, this name appears to be as old as if not older than the Robertsons of Struan.

Migration of the Robertome family to the New World and Oceana


The North American colonies beckoned, with their ample land and opportunity as their freedom from the persecution suffered by so many Clan families back home. Many Scots even fought against England in the American War of Independence to gain this freedom. Recently, clan societies have allowed the ancestors of these brave Scottish settlers to rediscover their familial roots. Among them: John Roberton who arrived in Philadelphia in 1829.
