Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Peter Putz, who came to America in 1710; Josef Putz, who came to Quebec in 1777; John William Putz, who was naturalized in Maryland in 1836; Friedrich Traugott Putzer, his wife and four children, who arrived in Missouri sometime between 1839 and 1841.
