There are many Irish surnames being used today that are almost indistingushiable from their ancient forms. Oroardy originally appeared in Gaelic as MacRobhartaigh," or "son of Robhartaigh," an old personal name derived from the Irish word "robharta" meaning "full tide."

Oroardy Early Origins



The surname Oroardy was first found in County Donegal (Irish: Dún na nGall), northwest Ireland in the province of Ulster, sometimes referred to as County Tyrconnel, where they were the coarbs (hereditary lay lords) of the church of St. Columcille in Tory Island.
