Early Origins of the Neffoy family
The surname Neffoy was first found in Angus (Gaelic: Aonghas), part of the Tayside region of northeastern Scotland, and present day Council Area of Angus, formerly known as Forfar or Forfarshire, where they held a family seat in the parish of Nevay, now called Essie. The name became interchangeably Nevay and Nevoy. The first on record was Adam of Neveth who perambulated (staked) his territories between the lands of the Abbey of Arbroath and Kinblemonth in 1219.
