In the annals of Scottish history, few names go farther back than MacKellow, whose ancestors go back to the people of the Boernician
tribe. The first family to use the name MacKellow lived in Aberdeen (part of the modern Grampian region.)

. More recently, leading seamen in the Commonwealth Navies addressed as "leader", and informally known as "kellicks" from the killick anchor which is the symbol of their rank.

societies and highland games that many have recovered their national heritage. Research into various historical records has revealed some of first members of the MacKellow family to immigrate North America: James Kellock, who was a servant, who arrived in Virginia in 1661; Alice Kellogg, who came to Hartford, CT in 1637; Daniel Kellogg, who arrived in Connecticut in 1651.
