Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Jean Gaucher, who arrived in Louisiana in 1720; Etienne Gaucherot, a French dealer in contraband salt, who was deported to Quebec in 1741; François Gaucher dit Bourdelois, de Tranzac en Saintonge, who married Marie-Geneviève Hinse, at Montmagny, Quebec on January 21, 1765.
