Early Origins of the Eynsford family

The surname Eynsford was first found in Kent at the parish of Eynesford in the union of Dartford, hundred of Axton, Dartford, and Wilmington. " This place takes its name from a ford across the Darent, on the east bank of which river are the remains of a castle, thought to have been erected about the time of the Conquest, by the family of De Eynesford: the walls inclose an area of about three-quarters of an acre, and were surrounded by a moat, now dry; in an adjoining garden are the foundations of some buildings supposed to have been connected with the castle." 1
