The name Brokholle is part of the ancient legacy of the Anglo-Saxon
tribes of Britain. It is a product of when the family lived near the brock-hole,
or badger hole. Brockholes is a small village in West Yorkshire
and true to its name is home to an extensive network of badger setts which are now carefully watched over by a local
badger protection group.

Migration of the Brokholle family to the New World and Oceana
Thousands of English families in this era began to emigrate the New World in search of land and freedom from religious and political persecution. Although the passage was expensive and the ships were dark, crowded, and unsafe, those who made the voyage safely were rewarded with opportunities unavailable to them in their homeland. Research into passenger and immigration lists has revealed some of the very first Brokholles to arrive in North America: John Brockhole who settled in Virginia in 1747.
