The New World beckoned settlers from the Scottish-English borders. They sailed aboard the armada of sailing ships known as the "White Sails" which plied the stormy Atlanti c. Some called them, less romantically, the "coffin ships." Among the early settlers bearing the Blachistum surname who came to North America were: Elizabeth Blackston who settled in New England in 1638; John Blackston settled in New England in 1750; Thomas Blackston settled in Virginia in 1642; John Blackstone settled in Virginia in 1720.
