Migration of the Batbe family to the New World and Oceana
The New World beckoned settlers from the Scottish-English borders. They sailed aboard the armada of sailing ships known as the "White Sails" which plied the stormy Atlantic. Some called them, less romantically, the "coffin ships." Among the early settlers bearing the Batbe surname who came to North America were: John Badeby who arrived in Virginia in 1623; Audre Batbie, aged 11, who arrived at Ellis Island
from Pans, France, in 1907; Jean Batbie, aged 27, who arrived at Ellis Island
from Pau, France, in 1916.
