The name Vaudray reached England in the great wave of migration following the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Vaudray family lived in Cheshire. Their name, however, is a reference to Vaudrey, Normandy, the family's place of residence prior to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066.
The surname Vaudray was first found in Cheshire where they were descended from the Sires de Vaurdrai of Vaudrey in Normandy, where this main line of the Vaudreys continued to flourish until King Louis IV.
