The surname Tubridy was first found in County Carlow (Irish: Cheatharlach) a small landlocked area located in the province of Leinster in the South East of Ireland, where O'Tybryth occurs in the Justiciary Rolls of 1311. However, the name actually belongs to County Clare. It occurs in the book of Lecan, the Book of Ballymote, and in the MacFirbis genealogies, as Ua Tipraide and Ó Tipraite.
