Many families left their homeland for North America for the promise of work, freedom and land ownership. An examination of immigration and passenger lists revealed many bearing the name Sheeromb: Phillip Prendergast who settled in Virginia in 1643; Richard and Miles Prendergast arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1858; Edward Prendergrast settled in Philadelphia in 1838.
