The surname Segoviano was inspired by the city of Segovia in Castile. The city is home to the Alcazar, an imposing 14th century castle where Isabella of Castile was crowned in 1474, and a Roman aqueduct, built during the reign of Trajan and is the largest Roman monument extant in Spain.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Hernando and Pedro de Segovia settled in Nicaragua in 1534. Antonio de Segovia landed in New Granada in 1562; as did Bartolome de Segovia in 1569. Maria de Segovia immigrated to Guatemala in 1569 and Isidro de Segovia to Chile in 1577. Simon de Segovia arrived in Peru in 1569.
