The Rosdale name has descended through the generations from the ancient Anglo-Saxon culture. Their name comes from having lived in the village of Rosindale near Clitheroe in the county of Lancashire. The surname was originally derived from two elements, rosen meaning roses and dahl referring to a valley. In this case the original bearers of the surname lived in a valley full of roses.
The surname Rosdale was first found in Lancashire where they held a family seat from early times and their first records appeared on the census rolls taken by the ancient Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.
