The old Cornish name Pask is a patronymic surname, formed from the medieval given name Pask. Pask in turn is thought to be derived from the Middle English word "paske," which meant "Easter." 1

Alternatively the name could have been derived from an ancestor as in 'the son of Pascall'. Pascoe still exists as a font-name in Cornwall, that last sanctuary of old English personal names. 2 "Pascoe is an old and distinguished Penzance [Cornwall] name." 3 The name is "a form of Pascall, long surviving in Cornwall." 4

Early Origins of the Pask family

The surname Pask was first found in Cornwall where Hugo filius Pasch is listed in the Hundredorum Rolls of Cornwall in 1279. John Pascowe was listed in a record as being in that county in 1443, and a Paskell Langdon, who died in 1606 was in some instances recorded as Pascowe. 4

"Erasmus Pascoe, of Trevassick, Phillack, was sheriff of the county in 1720. William Pascoe was mayor of Truro in 1758, and Thomas Pasooe was on the Commission of the Peace for the county in 1803. William Pascow, of this county, contributed £25 to the National Defence Fund at the time of the expected invasion of the Spanish Armada in 1588. The name is at present established around Truro and in the neighbouring towns." 3

To attest the aforementioned used of the name as a forename we found Pascowe, son of John Langdon, 1571 and Paskow, son of Thomas Vivian, 1590. 2
