Jaquis is an ancient Norman name that arrived in England after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The name Jaquis comes from the personal name Jacques, which is a form of the Latin name Jacobus. 1
The surname Jaquis was first found in Yorkshire where they held a family seat as Lords of the Manor of Nether Silton in the North Riding of Yorkshire. At the taking of the Domesday Book in 1086, Nether Silton was recorded as a village with a Hall and the tenant-in-chief was the Count of Mortain.
