The present generation of the Croketferd family is only the most recent to bear a name that dates back to the ancient Anglo-Saxon culture of Britain. Their name comes from having lived in Crockford, a remote village in the county of Oxford. This place-name is derived from the Old English word Cocford, which referred to those individuals who lived by the ford of potters.
The surname Croketferd was first found in Surrey where they held a family seat from very ancient times.
