Early Origins of the Cozzini family

The surname Cozzini was first found in Pesaro, anciently Pisaurum, a city and seaport of the Marches and capital of the province of Pesaro and Urbino. In the 13th century Pesaro was ruled by the papacy or local emperors. The Malesta family controlled about 1285. It transferred to Francesco Sforza in 1445 who was supplanted by 1512 with Francesco Maria, Duke of Urbino. In 1631 it reverted the States of the Church, in 1860 to the Kingdom of Italy. In those ancient times only persons of rank, the podesta, clergy, city officials, army officers, artists, landowners were entered into the records. To be recorded at this time, the beginning of recorded history, was of itself a great distinction and indicative of noble ancestry.
