Of all the Anglo-Saxon names to come from Britain, Bosworthey is one of the most ancient. The name is a result of the original family having lived in one of two parishes called Bosworth: Husband's Bosworth; and Market Bosworth, in the county of Leicestershire.
The surname Bosworthey was first found in Leicestershire, where they had been settled from ancient times, long before the Norman Conquest in 1066.

Although the passage was expensive and the ships were dark, crowded, and unsafe, those who made the voyage safely were rewarded with opportunities unavailable to them in their homeland. Research into passenger and immigration lists has revealed some of the very first Boswortheys to arrive in North America: Henry Bosworth who settled in Boston Massachusetts in 1765; Zack Bosworth who settled in Boston in 1620; and later moved to Salem in 1630; Captain Bosworth settled in Boston in 1767.
