The history of the Baperstock family name begins after the Norman Conquest of 1066. They lived in Wiltshire where they held a family seat from the 11th century. The family takes its name from a place called Baverstock in this area.
The surname Baperstock was first found in Wiltshire at Baverstock, a small village and former civil parish. Conjecturally they were Lords of the manor of Baverstock, originally Babestoche, which was held at the time of the taking of the Domesday Book Survey in 1086, by the Abbess of Wilton.

The languages of the English courts at that time were French and Latin. These various languages mixed quite freely in the evolving social milieu. The final element of this mix is that medieval scribes spelled words according to their sounds rather than any definite rules, so a name was often spelled in as many different ways as the number of documents it appeared in. The name was spelled Baverstocke, Baverstock, Baverstoke, Bayverstock, Beaverstock, Beaverstocke and many more.
