Early Origins of the Alysberay family

The surname Alysberay was first found in Buckinghamshire at Aylesbury, a borough, market-town, parish, and the head of a union, in the hundred of Aylesbury. "This place appears to have been one of the strongholds of the ancient Britons, from whom it was taken in the year 571 by Cutwulph, brother of Ceawlin, King of the West Saxons; and to have had a castle of some importance, from which circumstance probably it derives its Saxon appellation Aeglesburge. In the reign of the Conqueror it was a royal manor." [1]CITATION[CLOSE]

By the time of the Domesday Book of 1086, the place name was listed as Eilesberia [2]CITATION[CLOSE]

Migration of the Alysberay family to the New World and Oceana

Families began migrating abroad in enormous numbers because of the political and religious discontent in England. Often faced with persecution and starvation in England, the possibilities of the New World attracted many English people. Although the ocean trips took many lives, those who did get to North America were instrumental in building the necessary groundwork for what would become for new powerful nations. Some of the first immigrants to cross the Atlantic and come to North America bore the name Alysberay, or a variant listed above: settlers, who arrived along the eastern seaboard, from Newfoundland, to Maine, to Virginia, the Carolinas, and to the islands.
