Early Origins of the Walacoom family

The surname Walacoom was first found in Devon where they held a family seat from very ancient times, and were Lords of the manor of Woollacombe.

In the parish of Lanow, in some old records called Lanow Seynt, and in others Landoho, and in Doomsday Survey Langenewit of neighboring Cornwall, the ancient manor was at one time granted to John Wollacombe, clerk, and Roger Prideaux, gent. From these families it passed to the Bevilles, by whom it was carried in marriage to the Grenvilles. 1

"The Woollcombes, who have been seated at Hemerdon, [Devon] for several generations, in the reign of Elizabeth lived on the adjoining estate of Challonsleigh." 2
