Early Origins of the Trisawell family

The surname Trisawell was first found in Cornwall where they held a family seat as Lords of the Manor of Treswell. The Cornish influence on English history was quite independent until the 9th century when finally they were subdued by the prevailing Saxons, but was again diminished after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The language of the courts of England was French for the next three centuries and the Norman ambience prevailed. But Cornish surnames survived and the family name was first officially referenced in the year 1400 when Robert Treswell held estates in Cornwall. However, the village of Treswell was held by a Norman noble who was under-tenant to Count of Mortain at the time of the taking of the Domesday Book in 1086 and conjecturally, the family name may also be descended from this noble.
