Early Origins of the Timberlake family

The surname Timberlake was first found in Staffordshire where John de Tymberlake was listed in the Assize Rolls for 1281. The family is thought to have originated "from a lost Timberlake in Bayton, Worcestershire. [1] Another source disagrees and believe the family may be from "Timperley (?); a location name in Cheshire." [2] And another source notes that name could be "from Timber-leg, a wounded soldier with a wooden leg." [3]
