Early settlers bearing the Schwendeman surname or a spelling variation of the name include: Conrad Schwab and Philip Schwab, both of whom came to England and/or America in 1709. They were followed by Joggi Schwab and Hans Michael Schwab, who both arrived in Pennsylvania in 1749. Adam Schwabel arrived in Philadelphia in 1754.
