Early Origins of the Reddent family

The surname Reddent was first found in the parish of Sprouston, Roxburghshire, at Redden, formerly a grange of the Abbey of Kelso. Some of the first records of the family were Henry de Reueden who witnessed a charter of part of Auchynlec to Waldeus filius Boydoni between 1160 and 1180, and about 1180 Hugh de Reueden witnessed a grant to the Abbey of Kelso by Radulph de Veir. "About the year 1250 there is recorded a confirmation by John, son of Hugh de Reveden, to Galfridus de Eskford. In 1258 Hugh de Reueden resigned the lands called Floris (now Floors) to the Abbey of Kelso, and a charter of 1285 establishes the descent of Hugh, son and heir of John son of Hugh de Reuedene." 1

Much further south in Devon England, "Raddon, in the [Raddon Hills of Shobrooke] gave the name to the family of Raddon." 2
