The ancestors of the Pitillow name date back to the kingdom of Dalriada in ancient Scotland. Pitillow was a name for someone who lived in either of two places called Pittilloch; the first is near Freuchie in the county of Fife, while the second is in Glenfarg, in the county of Perth. An inquiry into the early roots of North American families has revealed a number of immigrants bearing the name Pitillow or a variant listed above: Henry Patillo, notable Presbyterian minister of Hanover, Virginia, who led the Wyllis Creek congregation in 1748; Thomas Patillo settled in Philadelphia in 1828.
