The ancestors of the first family to use the name Pettelloh lived among the Dalriadan people of ancient Scotland. The name Pettelloh was given to someone who lived in either of two places called Pittilloch; the first is near Freuchie in the county of Fife, while the second is in Glenfarg, in the county of Perth. The Pettelloh were among these contributors, for they have been located in early North American records: Henry Patillo, notable Presbyterian minister of Hanover, Virginia, who led the Wyllis Creek congregation in 1748; Thomas Patillo settled in Philadelphia in 1828.
