The Hebrides islands and Western coastal mountains of Scotland were once part of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada. The name McCroan was born there, as a nickname for a person with blond hair. The Scottish name Crone was originally derived from the Gaelic word "cron", which means saffron, yellow-colored or dark, and refers to the complexion or hair coloring of the original bearer.
