Early Origins of the Lerabee family

The surname Lerabee was first found in Forez, a former province of France, now part of the modern Loire département, the Haute-Loire and Puy-de-Dôme départements, where this distinguished family held a family seat from ancient times, and were important members of the aristocracy.

About the 14th century they branched south into Languedoc on the south coast of France and also to the north-east on the border with Belgium where they held a family seat in the province of Liège. They also branched to Dombes on the Rhône in the south-east of France. They flourished on their estates until the French Revolution in 1789 when many aristocrats lost their lands. La Ramée and the Phantom is a French fairy tale collected by Achille Millien and Paul Delarue.

Jean-Baptiste Laramee, born in 1730, came to New France in the 18th century. After arriving in Canada he married Marguerite Sylvain on 14th March 1759. They settled together in Quebec until Jean-Baptiste's death on 26th October 1786. 1
