Knibbs History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

For political, religious, and economic reasons, thousands of English families boarded ships for Ireland, Canada, the America colonies, and many of smaller tropical colonies in the hope of finding better lives abroad. Although the passage on the cramped, dank ships caused many to arrive in the New World diseased and starving, those families that survived the trip often went on to make valuable contributions to those new societies to which they arrived. Early immigrants bearing the Knibbs surname or a spelling variation of the name include:

Knibbs Settlers in Australia in the 19th Century

• James Knibbs, English convict from Northampton, who was transported aboard the "Anson" on September 23, 1843, settling in Van Diemen's Land, Australia 1
• Mr. John Knibbs, English convict who was convicted in Northamptonshire, England for 14 years transported aboard the "Forfarshire" on 24th June 1843, arriving in Tasmania (Van Diemen's Land) 2

• Thomas Henry Knibbs (d. 1915), English amateur footballer who played in the Football League for Burton Swifts (1898-1899)
• Ralph Andrew Knibbs (b. 1964), English former rugby union player who played for Bristol
• Harvey Andrew Knibbs (b. 1999), English professional footballer who plays as a forward for EFL League One club Reading
• Enos Knibbs, West Indian cricket umpire who stood in two Test matches between 1930 and 193
• Darrel Knibbs (b. 1949), Canadian former professional NHL ice hockey player
