In Canada, German settlement centered in Ontario and the prairie provinces. Among those of this surname listed in various historical records were: Hermann Hummel, who arrived in New York in 1709-10; Johann Adam Hummel came to Philadelphia in 1732; as did Thomas Hummell in 1736; Hans Jacob Hummel in 1743.
