The surname Heries was first found in Shropshire where the pedigree can be traced back to Cruchton [(Cruckton)] in 1463. 1 It is presumed that the family derived their name from Fitz-Henry who was mentioned in the deeds of that county and were seated at Little Sutton prior to the reign of Edward III. 2Herbert Herries, 1st Lord Herries of Terregles (died c. 1505), was a Scottish peer, the first of the Lords of Herries of Terregles, a hereditary title that still continues today.
