The surname Grimsdale was first found in Cheshire at the hamlet of Grimsditch. "The hamlet of Grimsditch is in the township [of Lower Whitley]; and Grimsditch Hall is the property of the family of Grimsditch." 1 The family name was first referenced in the year 1206 but in 1474 when Peter Grymsdytch held estates near Bucklow in Cheshire.
